Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents need to know about our kids martial arts programs

Getting Started

  • Which program is right for my child's age?

We offer age-specific programs: Little Lions (3-5) for building coordination and listening skills, Young Warriors (6-9) for character development and anti-bullying, Teen Champions (10-12) for leadership and advanced techniques, and Kids Judo (7+) for Olympic-style grappling. Each program is perfectly tailored to your child's developmental stage.

  • What if my child has never done martial arts before?

Perfect! 95% of our students start as complete beginners. Our instructors are specially trained to make new students feel welcome and comfortable. We use a buddy system for the first few classes, and every child progresses at their own pace. No one gets left behind or pushed too hard.

  • How does the free trial work?

Your child gets 2 free classes to experience Pride Martial Arts with absolutely no obligation. We provide the uniform for the trial, give you a tour of our facility, and your child joins a regular class with kids their age. After the trial, we'll discuss their experience and our recommendations - no pressure, no contracts to sign that day.

Safety & Concerns

  • How do you keep kids safe during training?

Safety is our top priority. We use professional safety mats, maintain small class sizes (max 12 students per instructor), and teach control before power. All physical contact is age-appropriate and closely supervised. Our instructors are certified in first aid and CPR, and we've maintained an exceptional safety record for over 14 years.

  • Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

Actually, the opposite! Martial arts teaches self-control, respect, and when NOT to fight. Children learn to walk away from confrontation with confidence. Studies show martial arts students are less likely to be bullies or victims because they develop inner strength, emotional regulation, and learn that fighting is always the last resort.

  • My child is very shy/hyperactive. Can they succeed?

Absolutely! We see amazing transformations in both personality types. Shy kids gain confidence through structured achievement and positive peer interaction. Hyperactive children learn to channel their energy productively and develop focus. Our instructors adapt their teaching style to each child's needs, ensuring everyone thrives.

Programs & Progress

  • How often should my child attend classes?

We recommend 2-3 classes per week for optimal progress. This frequency allows skill development while preventing burnout. Consistency is key - students who attend regularly see dramatic improvements in both physical abilities and character development within 30 days. We offer flexible scheduling to work with your family's busy life.

  • What's the difference between Karate and Judo?

Karate focuses on strikes, blocks, and kicks - perfect for self-defense and building confidence through structured progression. Judo is an Olympic sport emphasizing throws and grappling - great for kids who enjoy more physical, hands-on training. Both build character and discipline. Many students enjoy doing both programs!

  • How long until my child earns their black belt?

Typically 3-5 years with consistent training, but we focus on the journey, not the destination. Each child progresses at their own pace through our belt system. We test every 3 months, and promotion is based on skill, knowledge, attitude, and effort - not just time. The character built along the way is more valuable than the belt itself.

Practical Details

  • What are your class schedules?

Classes run Monday-Friday 4:00-8:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Little Lions (3-5) have 30-minute classes, while older groups have 45-minute sessions. Judo runs Tuesday/Thursday 5:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM. Each age group has multiple time slots, and you can switch between times as needed.

  • Do you offer family discounts?

Yes! We offer significant family discounts for multiple children. Second child gets 20% off, third child 30% off. We believe martial arts creates stronger families through shared values and experiences. Ask about our "Family Power" packages during your trial. We also have referral rewards and seasonal promotions.

  • Can parents watch the classes?

Absolutely! We have a comfortable viewing area where parents can watch every class. We encourage it, especially during the first few weeks. Some kids focus better without parents watching, so we'll work with you to find what's best. Belt testing ceremonies and special events are always family affairs!
